Tickets for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s upcoming season are now on sale.
The 2011-12 season, the theatre’s ninth, is titled The Best of Broadway, and opens with The 39 Steps (Nov. 1-13), a fast-paced thriller made famous in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film adaptation. Following this will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Nov. 29-Dec. 18), Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s family-friendly reworking of the biblical story of Joseph, his multi-colored coat and his unique dream interpretation skills.
Next is the sensual Tony Award-winning Cabaret (Jan. 10-29), the Kander and Ebb musical set in a Weimar Republic nightclub. Audiences will get a burst of color and life with John Logan’s play Red (Feb. 14-26), a riveting look at abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko’s frenzied creation of work for a Four Seasons mural project. Rounding out the season is Jerry Herman’s musical Hello, Dolly! (March 13-April 1), the story of an irrepressible New York matchmaker at the turn of the last century.
Prices for single show tickets range from $39 to $60, with flexible performance schedule options available. Two subscription plans, a four-play and five-play plan, also are available. Season subscriptions are between $151 to $252. Subscriber perks include saving between 10-15 percent on single-ticket prices, a one fee-free ticket exchange per show, and access to limited engagement and special events tickets. PB Gardens dance company tours Cuba
The Florida Classical Ballet Theatre recently returned from a 10-day trip to Cuba, where its dancers performed in venues including a children’s cancer hospital.
The Palm Beach Gardens-based company toured the island nation Aug. 4-11 after raising $2,000 in a benefit at the Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College. Eleven dancers participated in the trip, performing at a civic center, community center, large theater and two churches. The trip also included a special performance in San Jose de los Ramos to an audience of first-time ballet viewers.
FCBT dancer Rogelio Corrales, a native of Cuba, said he was particularly moved by the trip, having received training in his home country before becoming a professional dancer with several companies including the Venezuelan Ballet, the company said in a news release.
After arriving home, the company learned it had won a $2,000 grant from the retailer Target to assist the troupe in its mission of preserving the art of classical ballet. For information on current and upcoming performances, visit fcbt.org or call 561-630-8235.
