WEST PALM BEACH — The coming cold front might be good news for residents looking for a taste of winter for the holidays, but the thunderstorms forecast to usher it in aren’t conducive to an outdoor concert.
Palm Beach Opera’s annual outdoor waterfront concert, scheduled for Saturday at the Meyer Amphitheatre, is being canceled because of the weather, company officials said Thursday.
Storms are expected in the area early Saturday morning and into the afternoon before a strong blast of cold air that will drop nighttime temperatures into the 40s, weather forecasters said.
Scheduled to perform this weekend were the Palm Beach Opera Young Artists, orchestra and chorus, and The Ebony Chorale of The Palm Beaches.
“Regrettably, we have to cancel this year’s Opera @ The Waterfront,” General Director Daniel Biaggi said in a statement. “But with our mainstage productions underway, there is so much more to be excited about.”
The upcoming 2018 season includes performances of Puccini’s Tosca (Jan. 26-28), Leonard Bernstein’s Candide (Feb. 23-25) and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, (Mar. 23-25). For more information, visit pbopera.org or call 833-7888.
