Monday means that Broadway is dark, but I can still get some arts culture. This morning I went to the Whitney Museum to see Edges of Ailey, the first major show devoted to modern dance giant Alvin Ailey. Videos, artifacts and paintings by contemporary African-American artists. First-rate.
In the afternoon, I went to the Library of Performing Arts at Lincoln Center where the featured exhibit showcased the Joffrey Ballet and its legacy. Also worthwhile and it is free.
Two Broadway shows left on my dance card — Tammy Faye (Bakker), a London hit with a score by Elton John, and Death Becomes Her, based on the Meryl Streep/Goldie Hawn flick, now featuring Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard. The out-of-town word from Chicago was very good. Fingers crossed.
